Marcelino Aviles, Ambassador of Panama, is declared Honorary Citizen of the City of Canberra.<\/p>\n
His Excellency Marcelino Aviles Valdespino, the first Panamanian Ambassador to Australia, was bid farewell by His Excellency Miguel Palomino de la Gala, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. He said that the feat of opening a Diplomatic Mission is challenging but exciting for the professional life of a career diplomat. Ambassador Avil\u00e9s achieved it in a short time and at the same time activated the relations between Panama and Australia.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Director of Protocol said it was an honour to have the innovation brought to diplomacy by Ambassador Aviles and wished him much success in his new positions in the future.<\/p>\n
Brendan Smith and Emma Gowling, on behalf of the Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, ML, declared Ambassador Aviles an Honorary Citizen of the City of Canberra for his diplomatic service. He is the first Head of Mission in history to bear this title.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Aviles thanked all those present and indicated that it is an honour to have such a prestigious designation and a responsibility to be the first because you have to work harder to achieve the objectives. He said he learned a phrase from the Australian people: We can do better.<\/p>\n
The event took place inside the nunciature, where H.E. Reverend Adolfo Tito Yllana was also farewell.<\/p>\n

El Embajador Avil\u00e9s, lo logr\u00f3 en poco tiempo y paralelamente activ\u00f3 las relaciones entre su pa\u00eds y Australia.<\/p>\n
