Los Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores de Costa Rica, Belice, Guatemala, Panamá, República Dominicana y España, expresan su profunda preocupación por las recientes acciones desplegadas por el gobierno de Nicaragua contra importantes líderes de la oposición en ese país, las cuales atentan contra el libre ejercicio democrático. Instamos a su inmediata liberación, y a la restitución de sus derechos políticos.

Recuerdan a Nicaragua su obligación de respetar todas sus obligaciones internacionales, en particular en materia de derechos humanos. Es imprescindible evitar acciones que impongan restricciones a la libre participación de todos los actores políticos de la sociedad en los procesos de elección, y se debe asegurar el pluralismo político y la libertad de expresión.

El pueblo de Nicaragua merece la garantía de unas elecciones justas, libres, independientes, transparentes, creíbles, inclusivas, y con observación internacional.

We urge their immediate release, and the restitution of their political rights.

They remind Nicaragua of its obligation to respect all of its international obligations, particularly in the area of ​​human rights.
